Career Day
Career Day Expectations-
For my career day I was expecting it to be a bit boring because my shadow said he would have to answer a lot of emails that day. I was expecting to get there and get a tour of the lab and then sit in his office or with a grad student and read and work on my interview questions. I also was a little nervous about being in a lab around a lot of new instruments. Interview questions- What in your educational background prepared you for this job?University of Toronto- Bachelor's degree in science, Masters degree in science, pHd in science. 7 years working in a research job. How do you interact with other people at your job? Teaches students in the lab for about 1/4 of the year. Works/ collaborates with grad students. Collaborates with research companies. What does a typical work day look like? Comes into work around 9, he discusses with grad students and researchers about what they are working on. Then he teaches students in the lab and checks on the projects he is working on. To finish off the day he talks to his collaborations about how they are doing on their shared projects and answers emails. Reflection- Overall I had a really good career day. I was expecting it to be a little boring because my mentor said he had a lot of emails to answer. In the end he ended up not having that many to answer and I got to spend a lot of time in the lab. I was also able to meet the grad students he works with and hear a little about what they do in the lab. I was also excited to be able to see how he worked with the students in the lab. In the end I found that this was a a really good experience to see how other people work in a professional environment, but I don't think this would be a job i would want to do in the future. |
