College Knowledge
Essential question: What education and skills are needed and beneficial to succeed in topics of study at the university level and in careers that you deem engaging and worthwhile?
I need an education that gives me a hands on education. Since I want to go into the STEM field having a hands on educations can help me a lot. I am learn by doing and that is very important for me. My three schools all have "learning by doing" opportunities for me in what ever STEM field I pick. Both California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and California Polytechnic State University,San Luis Obispo have the polytechnic learning structure. Even though Humboldt does not have this specific moto, they still are heavy on the getting out of the classroom and getting students opportunities in the real world before they apply for jobs. My GPA and grades play a big part in the schools I want to go to since I am pushing my self in every class by taking honors my GPA will be heavily weighted by the end of high school and I am working hard to keep my grades high. The activities I do outside of school are also very important. The main big activity I do outside of school is club soccer. I'd like to carry this into college by playing club sports for my school. For me personally, a college needs to have a lot of opportunities for me to get real-world experience. This is because I learn better by doing the things I am working on rather than listening to someone talk to me about what I am going to be working on. The main strategies I am going to work on to succeed in my path are going to be journaling before tests. This is mainly because I get stressed before tests and my mind feels scattered, bu writing down everything I am thinking about before I test can clean my brain so I am able to focus. Going along with this I would like to develop my brain in the Hippocampus/ neocortex/ the amygdala region: These areas of the brain help with remembering general facts and information (semantic memory). I can do this by always journaling after my classes and writing down everything I remember so I am better able to recall the information at a later date.

After taking to the Humboldt State University representative, I learned that Humboldt is a great school for "individuals who want to improve our lives and our environment." Humboldt offers academic internships to service learning projects for students to get out of the classroom and still be learning. This gives students to get real-world experiences before they enter the job market. I asked how the school helps students prepare for the future, and they told me that. "they combine traditional classroom learning with hands-on experience that gives the students a jump start after college. Also, Humboldt students get hands-on experience by doing volunteer work in local areas."
